We recognise that the success of our business comes down to our employees and when it comes to software development, we also understand that computer technology evolves rapidly, therefore we are looking for an experienced Applications Software Engineer that lives and breathes software development, staying current with new trends and can impart their passion to others.

About us

Oxford Instruments aims to pursue responsible development and deeper understanding of our world through science and technology by providing high technology tools and systems for industrial and research markets, based on our ability to analyse and manipulate matter at the smallest scale.

Applications for our Magnetic Resonance products include detecting illicit drugs, helping to safeguard the environment by measuring pollutants, as well as improving the quality of fuels and rock core analysis.

The opportunity

This role forms part of a small software development team and will play a key part in generating our technology road map. You will significantly contribute to the architecture of our software, by understanding the requirements of the customer, crafting the framework that will reflect the customer’s workflow and then write appropriate code using C# and WPF.  You can expect to be involved with the process from design, development, debugging to testing, as well as maintaining existing components.

About you

You will have proven experience of writing code with C# and WPF, as well as designing applications, both from scratch. You will approach problems with a fresh perspective and be open to new ways of doing things.  Experience of web interfaces (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) would be useful and experience with Python is also desirable. If you have an understanding of numerical processing, or previous experience with scientific instrumentation, that would also be an advantage.

Benefits

In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments offers flexible working hours and a half-day on Fridays, 25 days annual leave, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, and a flexible benefits package that you can tailor to your own requirements.
